The Blue Valley CAPS Engineering Program is designed to give students an understanding of the numerous opportunities that can be found in the Engineering Career Pathway with an in-depth project based approach to learning. Through the implementation of CAPS course work and support of local business partners, students are able to experience firsthand what real engineers do, which ultimately will assist them in making a more informed decision for their future studies.
An important part of the program is the application of the learned math, science, and communication skills taught at the home high schools. Students are now able to answer the question of “why do I need to know this” and “when am I ever going to use this.” In addition, emphasis is placed on the survival skills it takes to succeed in today’s dynamic business environment, such as critical and creative thinking, problem solving, effective communication, and working in teams.
Throughout the 4-year high school career, a student interested in engineering will be able to participate in foundational engineering courses their 9th and 10th grade years, then be able to enroll in specialized courses at the CAPS Center, such as Aerospace Engineering, Digital Electronics Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, and Civil Engineering & Architecture. Lastly, students will be able to conduct a semester long research and design project in a field of choice their Senior year.
The CAPS Engineering Program is connected to the Project Lead the Way college affiliations, see your home high school counselor for details.
