Law

February 8
This week the Law & Public Safety Students have been learning some of the fundamentals and having some interesting expert presentations.

On Monday, February 4, the afternoon class met Mr. Fox who works with Homeland Security. He explained the structure of that federal agency, the role that they play in our government and talked about some cases that he has worked on personally.

Tuesday, February 5 the students met Steve Hunter, a retired law enforcement officer. Mr. Hunter talked to the classes about a couple high media cases that he was personally involved in and walked them through the investigation process.

The students have learned more about Miranda v. Arizona, the Supreme Court case that requires that individuals in custody be informed of their 5th Amendment rights prior to being interrogated, and how it affects both individuals and law enforcement. Students also learned about a number of U.S. Supreme Court cases that clarify, define and tell us how the 4th Amendment Search and Seizure rules are applied on a daily basis.
